Unbound
Magical realism blurs the line between the familiar and the fantastic, immersing the reader in a world that is both mundane and surreal. Given boundaries as a subject, I decided to create a deluxe book set featuring three books (Midnight's Children, One Hundred Years of Solitude, The House of Spirits) in the genre of magical realism.
Instead of the traditional book jacket, each hardcover is contained in a paper wrap featuring patterns made from elements and symbols from each novel. In this way, Unbound not only refers to magical realism, but also the experience of the viewer as they unwrap, unfold, and unbind each book.
